Monica Kang

FOUNDER & CEO

Monica Kang heads KMS Capital’s investment strategy and leads the firm’s sourcing, evaluation, structuring, acquisition and management of investments. Her in-depth market knowledge - gained from 18 years of experience in commercial real estate finance and investment - and her long-term relationships with investors, lenders, brokers and some of the industry’s other leading service providers enable KMS Capital to access differentiated deal flow and investment opportunities.

Prior to founding KMS Capital, Monica was a Principal on the acquisitions team at Capstone Realty Group, where she was responsible for investment sourcing and due diligence, equity raising, debt financing, and asset management. While at Capstone, she closed nearly $200m of investment transactions including grocery-anchored shopping centers throughout the Northeast and value-add office properties in New Jersey.

Prior to Capstone, she was in the Capital Markets group at Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) in New York, where she was responsible for valuation analysis, workout/restructurings, and asset management of a $2.0b portfolio of performing and non-performing loans secured by all asset classes of real estate. In addition, Monica advised on the acquisition and disposition of over $1.0b in real estate assets in Manhattan and Philadelphia, including the HSBC Bank Headquarters in NY and Curtis Square in Philadelphia. Prior to her career at JLL, Monica was on the development team at Kimco Realty, where she was responsible for analyzing existing shopping centers for potential expansion and/or re-development in the Northeast region.

Monica is also an avid musician who as a child was recognized as a prodigy cellist while attending Juilliard Pre-College School and winning numerous competitions and giving many performances including her Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 11.  

Monica is the executive director of Love Violin for Children, a non-profit organization, that supports teaching musical instruments to children in the underserved communities.  

Monica earned a BA degree from Princeton University in 2001 and a Masters degree in Real Estate Development from Columbia University in 2007.


Nat Rockett

ADVISORY BOARD

Nat Rockett is an Associate Broker with Marcus & Millichap. During his 20 years of investment sales experience in New York City, Mr. Rockett has closed more than 70 transactions totaling $6.5b in value. His track record covers a broad spectrum of asset types and transaction structures.

Mr. Rockett began his career at Massey Knakal Realty Services and worked in the investment sales department of CBRE and Insignia/ESG prior to Jones Lang LaSalle, where he served as a Managing Director and head of New York investment sales. He most recently served as co-head of the investment sales team for Cushman & Wakefield in Manhattan. His transactional experience includes the sale of office properties, development parcels, retail properties, multifamily buildings, leasehold interests and mortgages. Mr. Rockett has successfully completed transactions throughout the metropolitan area including Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island, Westchester County and New Jersey. He is a member of YMWREA and the Real Estate Board of New York where he serves on the Sales Brokers committee.


Joseph Kang

ADVISORY BOARD

Joseph Kang is a Portfolio Strategist Vice President for the Global Real Asset Securities team within BlackRock Alternative Investors. Prior to assuming his current role, Joseph was a member of the BlackRock Real Assets Global COO team, where he focused on business development, analysis and project management across the Global Real Asset Securities, U.S. Real Estate Private Equity and Global Real Estate Debt businesses.

Prior to joining BlackRock, he was a senior associate at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where he was responsible for client service and relationship management for institutional clients. Joseph earned a BA degree from the University of Chicago and a MSRE degree from New York University's Schack Institute of Real Estate.


William Freydberg

ADVISORY BOARD

William A. Freydberg is a Senior Vice President responsible for residential acquisitions and dispositions at Sentinel Real Estate Corporation. Prior to joining Sentinel in 2002, he was Senior Vice President with First Sterling Financial Group, a real estate syndication firm from 1996 to 2001. Prior to that, he served as Director and Chief Representative of AMTAD New York, Inc., the investment and development arm of Takenaka Corporation. Mr. Freydberg received a BS from Cornell University and a Masters of Science from New York University.


Andrew Rhee

Advisory Board

Andrew Y. Rhee is a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, where he leads debt capital markets activity for the US corporate private equity business and is responsible for acquisition financings and portfolio company capital structure management. In addition, he is responsible for private equity co-investments and deal syndication.

Prior to assuming his current role, Andrew was a corporate private equity investor in the Principal Investment Area of Goldman Sachs, and had executed investments across a wide range of industries, including healthcare, industrials, natural resources, financial institutions, and media. He joined Goldman Sachs in 2005. He currently serves on the board of directors of Drayer Physical Therapy Institute, LLC. Andrew received an AB from Harvard University and an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.


Harim Choi

FINANCIAL ANALYST

Harim is responsible for property valuations and market analyses supporting the KMS Capital acquisitions team. Prior to joining KMS Capital, Harim was a financial analyst at Bond Street, a financial technology company in small business lending, and Mesa West Capital, a real estate investment company in private commercial lending. Harim graduated from Cornell University with a BA in Operations Research and Information Engineering and a Master’s degree in Engineering Management.


Christina Schmidt

Office Manager / BOOK KEEPER

Christina Schmidt has over 15 years of administrative and bookkeeping experience.  Prior to joining KMS Capital, Christina worked at Aquila Management, Capstone Realty Group, Eisai Inc. and Unitrade Supply Company. She holds a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University.
